Child Actors That Got Fame and Fortune Too Quickly

Child Actors That Got Fame and Fortune Too Quickly

While everyone would love to be rich and famous, it can be very overwhelming to go from a regular person to a celebrity overnight. Unfortunately, that is what has happened to a lot of child actors over the years.

True, many child actors have handled their fame well and gone on to have successful careers. However, others couldn’t handle the pressure and fizzled out soon after. In this article, we will take a look at a few that fall into the second category.

Lindsay Lohan

Li-Lo started her career in the spotlight as a model at the young age of 3. A few years later, she got her big break in Hollywood when she starred in The Parent Trap, and her next few films (including Freaky Friday and Mean Girls) turned her into a massive star.

However, she couldn’t handle the fame, and her career fell apart almost as soon as it started. She has been arrested numerous times for DUI, cocaine possession and other such infractions. She’s been to rehab numerous times, has had multiple stints in jail and hasn’t been able to keep herself out of trouble over the last decade or so.

Macaulay Culkin

While it wasn’t his debut, Culkin rose to fame for his role in Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. Both movies were huge hits and he became a worldwide star before he was even a teenager.

When Culkin was entering his teenage years, however, his parents began to greedily fight over control of his fortune, which is likely a catalyst that caused him to fall off the rails (along with his meteoric rise to fame). He became involved with drugs and had numerous run-ins with the law over the years. He is currently in a band and does a bit of acting here and there, but most people will never know him as anyone but Kevin McCallister.

Jake Lloyd

You might not have heard his name, but you would definitely recognize his face. Back in 1999, Jake Lloyd became known as the child actor who played Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

While becoming famous would seem like a blessing for some people, it was more like a curse for Lloyd. Following the poor reviews of Episode I, he got bullied at school and decided to retire from acting only years after his career began. Since retiring, Lloyd has struggled with both the law and his mental health issues. In 2015, he was arrested for reckless driving and resisting arrest and was sent to a psychiatric facility, where he was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Corey Haim

Haim is a Canadian actor that starred in a variety of popular movies throughout the 1980s, including The Lost Boys, which was his most famous film. His success led to a lot of fame and money, which Haim simply wasn’t able to handle.

Unable to transition from his experience as a teen actor, Haim’s fame led to frequent drug abuse, causing him to struggle with addiction for years. Sadly, Haim passed away in 2010 due to pulmonary edema. It was discovered soon after that he had an enlarged heart, a common sign of drug abuse.
